In 2008, Mara embarked on a new career journey in the field of journalism. Since that time, the Wilmington, NC native has interviewed and written stories on what reads like a “Who’s Who” of hip-hop and R&B, including hip-hop pioneer Grandmaster Caz, Jadakiss, Maino, J. Holiday, and Day 26, among others. Her work has appeared on multiple websites, including HHLO.net, YoRaps.com, GlobalGrind.com, and BlackCityMag.com, and in magazines such as Parle and City Scenes Magazine, the latter for which she serves as the NYC Features Editor. Her own website, TheHipHopSocialite.com, has been referenced by AllHipHop.com, UrbanInSite.com, and HipHopWeekly.com since its launch last May.
After spending a year hosting the celebrity gossip segment of NYC’s XTV, Mara redirected her focus on launching a career in radio. In early 2009, she joined Street Disciplez Radio, the most headline grabbing hip-hop radio show on the net. As a result of some of the stories broken on the show, Mara’s face and the faces of her fellow hosts have been seen on virtually every major urban website on the net on multiple occasions in the last year alone, including MediaTakeOut.com, Bossip.com, and TheYBF.com. Most recently, Mara joined the team behind NewYork.com, the go-to site for NYC tourism, as their Hip-Hop Events and Nightlife Editor; it’s the first time in the website’s 15-year history that hip-hop centered events and nightlife have been featured.
Despite everything Mara’s accomplished, it’s only the beginning for this southern belle making moves in the big city, and as she often says, stay tuned….
